The negative connotation of 'Sell'
RK+Co:

This question requires a far more complex answer than I initially anticipated.

Perhaps the connotation of 'sell' is that it celebrates the positive attributes of a products while not necessarily presenting the ways in which the buyer's expectations may not be met.

Because the seller's interest is in a sale, the buyer views the seller as inherently biased.

I wonder if buyers who are themselves salesmen receive other sellers in negative light. I suspect not. Is this because salesmen feel personally empowered to evaluate the ways an opportunity can solve problems?

Sell means Buy
I believe that as soon as someone says anything about selling, a consumer minded person instantly thinks of buying, which from the consumer's standpoint is money taking away from their pocket, which is always a problem when you are talking to someone working for a paycheck!

To Robert:
Thank you for your mentorship through providing me with a rewarding financial education for the last year and a half through Rich Dads Education. I tell everyone that I can about what you do and how much I believe it is helping me and my wife with financial choices, and overall how it has given me a a path to understanding my freedom! Thanks.

What do I think of when I hear the word "sell:"
I used to think that the work “Sell” was a bad word. That is because I used to only see the negative side of the word. I have subsequently learned that many things have both a good side and a bad side. Just like debt. There is good debt and bad debt. It is not the thing itself that is the issue, it’s how it’s implemented and the motive behind it.

Selling in Nigeria
The word SELL actually has its negative meaning even here in Nigeria. Robert, you probably would have noticed the hawkers by the road side when you visited South Africa. Or the petty traders with small tables of wares they put out to sell. Now that is the negative connotation attached to it.
Many average people especially the educated ones in the middle class of African society assume that when you ask them to go sell, they take it that you have degraded their status to that of a poor child hawking by the road side. They rather would like to be in the picture of the RICH who are doing the buying.
I joined the GNLD Network marketing group with my wife when I was still dating the young beautiful damsel. Some of my friends saw that as a setback especially when I introduced them to the GNLD club and tried persuading them to join.
Naturally, I had been poor at selling myself and even now, I am still trying to master the ART, especially, as I have realized that its been a major obstacle that had limited the exposure of my businesses.
Some are actually afraid of REJECTION. They don't want to be told NO!
Selling is important but a lot of people in Nigeria will miss out on its benefit because of the perception they have about it.

chapter 9 - What do you think of when you hear the word ‘sell’?
I think of arm-twisting and manipulation. Consequently, I have never liked selling or being sold to. In this society, I have to be a shut in to avoid annoyance on this count. However, I want to sell some household possessions soon, and I plan to use your suggestion that we take the opportunity to teach or inform another human being. Wish me luck.

Chapter 9 - The word 'sell'
When I hear the word 'sell', my eyes roll, a feeling of disgust engulfs me.

The word 'sell' has a negative connotation because:
1) People fear rejection - being told 'NO'
2) Selling is perceived as a menial job - I'm not a beggar

The Word Sell
When I used to hear the word sell it was associated with the
stereotypical, high-pressure, used car or insurance salesman.
The negative connotation comes from the impression that the
salesman only wanted the money more than he wanted what was
best for the customer. Sounds like the company I work for now.

But I can understand this new definition of sell as it pertains
to financial education. As a salesman, I think part of selling
needs to be balanced with consumer education. Give the
customer all the information to make an informed decision to say, "Yes! You have a sale!"

selling
Hi Robert...and others....

This is awesome stuff!
When it comes to being financially successful, I think selling is the most important skill you need to have. I don't have it yet, but according to Robert's books, it is vital. I really wish it didn't have a negative connotation to it, and that people didn't want to run away as soon as they feel you're "going somewhere" with your conversations. It would sure make business easier.

Thanks Robert for all your advice!

Erudite Viewers,
I my opinion the word sell has a negative connotation due to the stiff competition among the rival firms & some companies sell low quality products at high prices. You can pass your ccie exam on your first try by trying our questions that provide you everything you need.
